Charles Roven

CEO & Co-founder, Atlas Entertainment

Charles Roven is an Academy Award®, Golden Globe®, BAFTA, and PGA Award–winning producer whose influence on the entertainment industry spans more than four decades. As a founder of Atlas Entertainment, he has built a legacy defined by creative collaboration, commercial success, and unwavering leadership across film, television, and music. Over his storied career, Roven has been instrumental in generating billions in revenue for the companies he has founded and managed. His films alone have earned more than $10.6 billion at the global theatrical box office, placing him among the top ten highest-grossing producers of all time.
Roven most recently produced the global cinematic phenomenon Oppenheimer alongside Emma Thomas and Christopher Nolan. Nolan also wrote and directed the film, which stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and Florence Pugh. Based on the Pulitzer Prize–winning biography American Prometheus, Oppenheimer became one of the most celebrated films in contemporary history, earning seven Academy Awards® including Best Picture, as well as Golden Globe, BAFTA, PGA, DGA, SAG and AFI honors. The film was a worldwide commercial hit, surpassing numerous box-office records and closing in on the billion-dollar mark.
Before Oppenheimer, Roven produced Sony’s adaptation of its blockbuster PlayStation franchise Uncharted, directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg, and Antonio Banderas. The film debuted at #1 and went on to gross more than $407 million worldwide.
Roven continues to shape major studio releases. Upcoming projects include Mercy for Amazon MGM Studios, starring Chris Pratt, Rebecca Ferguson, Kali Reis, and Annabelle Wallis, slated for release in January 2026. Atlas Entertainment is also producing Michael B. Jordan’s reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair, set for a March 2027 theatrical and IMAX debut, and Road House 2, the sequel to the record-breaking 2024 reboot starring Jake Gyllenhaal, which will stream on Prime Video.
Roven’s longstanding creative partnership with Warner Bros. includes many of the defining titles of the DC Extended Universe: The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman 1984, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. He also produced the Netflix hit Triple Frontier, which became one of the platform’s most-watched original films, surpassing 120 million viewers in its first months.
His collaboration with David O. Russell yielded the acclaimed American Hustle, nominated for 10 Academy Awards® including Best Picture, after previously teaming up for Three Kings. Roven produced Christopher Nolan’s game-changing Dark Knight Trilogy—a cultural cornerstone of modern cinema—and acclaimed titles including The Bank Job, City of Angels, Get Smart, and Twelve Monkeys, later adapted into a successful television series. Recent credits include John Woo’s 2024 reimagining of The Killer.
Roven’s work extends beyond film into music, television, and multimedia ventures. Through Roven/Cavallo Entertainment and later Atlas Entertainment, he helped guide major recording artists such as Green Day, Alanis Morissette, Seal, Goo Goo Dolls, and Weezer. The soundtrack for City of Angels, which his team packaged, became the best-selling album of its year, earning multiple platinum certifications and Grammy Awards®. His partnership in Mosaic Media Group expanded his footprint into talent management, guiding figures like Ellen DeGeneres, Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, and Sacha Baron Cohen. Roven also oversaw the acquisition and revitalization of Dick Clark Productions, helping launch the hit franchise So You Think You Can Dance.
In television, Roven executive produced Bravo’s breakout true-crime anthology Dirty John, which became the network’s most-watched scripted series and earned Golden Globe® and Critics’ Choice nominations. He also executive produced Netflix’s thriller What/If starring Renée Zellweger.
Roven’s many honors reflect his industry-wide impact. He has been recognized as ShoWest Producer of the Year, Filmmaker of the Year at the Dubai International Film Festival, and in 2018 received the Producers Guild of America’s David O.
